SCRUFFYD

Close Ratio Steering Box

A special feature offered by Chevrolet was a quick ratio steering box. This feature reduced the number of times you had to turn the wheel from lock to lock. Its very handy when traveling the twisty turns in the hills and canyons. Here you can see an exploded view of ScruffyD's box as it's being rebuilt.

Slightly Worked 140hp

ScruffyD currently has a 140hp engine. Four single barrel carbs with progressive secondaries. A mild cam improves the performance without making it un-streetable..

Improved Oil elivery

Hard or prolonged cornering can have some seriously negative effects on oil delivery. ScruffyD has an Accusump system installed to reduce the ill efffect of oil pressure loss.

Additional Oil Cooling

An additional oil cooler mounted in the air intake grille provides some much needed cooling beyond what the OEM cooler provides.

Clutch Upgrades

The factory flywheel was lightened and trued up before final installation. The four speed trans with a positrac rear end keeps the power flowing to the wheels.

At the helm

A smaller steering wheel replaces the steam boat wheel the factory had installed. Coupled to the quick steer box ScruffyD is quick when it comes to changing directions.

No one ever said the long way home had to be boring.

Getting a little attention

is not always a bad thing. Here ScruffyD gets a little attention from a couple of L.A.s finest while on their lunch break..

Going places

ScruffyD at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosemond, Ca.

Giving things a moment to rest

Up Little Tujunga Canyon while touring Angeles Crest. There are many scenic vistas where you can pull over and take in the incredible view.

Hanging out on Friday nite

at Bob's in Burbank,Ca. the day ScruffyD got side swiped by a runaway car. I watched the whole event from the ATM. A young kid got out of his Honda, locked and closed his door only to realize he had failed to set the parking brake. He made a valiant attempt to re-enter his car as it rolled downhill but didnt make it in time. His car bounced off of ScruffyD and then into another car parked nearby.

Window Installation

Needed to have the rear window glued back in. The factory adhesive finally dried out and had to be replaced.

Period correct

ScruffyD currently sports a set of period correct 14' rims from American Racing Wheels. The drum brakes leave a little to be desired so I'll be upgrading to disc brakes in the front along with a wheel and tire change. Stay tuned.....
